Exposition multimédia de la vie étudiante palestinienne sous l’occupation Israélienne. Matériel artistique de la photographe et artiste multimédia palestinienne Rehab Nazzal. Intervention par des jeunes palestiniens de l’université de Birzeit à Ramallah.

Panel: Resisting Apartheid

Stories of resistance to apartheid from Palestine, South Africa and Kanehsatake

Lieu/where: University of Ottawa campus, Montpetit Hall (MNT 201)

Nadia Abu-Zahra is a professor at the University of Ottawa who has written extensively on mobility, human security, and militarisation. Her recent work focuses on how states - and particularly their policies of identity documentation (passports, IDs, databases, etc.) - affect individuals and groups at personal levels.

Clifton Arihwakehte Nicholas is a Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) from the Kanehsatake Territory north of Montreal. He was one of the original participants in the 1990 "Oka" Crisis. He is active in defending his community and speaking out against Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

Lubna Nadvi is a member of the Palestine Solidarity Committee of South Africa. She is an academic and activist who was present during the 2001 United Nations conference against racism in Durban South Africa, where Zionism was charged for racism.

International Women's Day: Salute to the Palestinian Woman

Visit our table in the Atrium to learn more about how Palestinian women are uniquely affected by apartheid, colonialism and illegal occupation, and how they have always been at the forefront of the Palestinian struggle for freedom and dignity.

Film Screening: Slingshot Hip Hop

Slingshot Hip Hop braids together the stories of young Palestinians living in Gaza, the West Bank and inside Israel as they discover Hip Hop and employ it as a tool to surmount divisions imposed by occupation and poverty. From internal checkpoints and Separation Walls to gender norms and generational differences, this is the story of young people crossing the borders that separate them.

Sylvie Paquerot est une professeure à l’École d’études politiques de l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle est une juriste, une spécialiste de droit international et une militante engagée à la Ligue des droits et libertés du Québec.

Pierre Beaudet est un professeur à l’École de développement international et de mondialisation (ÉDIM) à l’Université d’Ottawa, et un participant au Forum social mondial sur l’éducation en Palestine, Ramallah en Octobre 2010.

After Apartheid: Achieving Justice and Equality in Palestine

Ali Abunimah is the author of One Country, A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse and co-founder of The Electronic Intifada. Ali made appearances on Al Jazeera and Democracy Now during Operation Cast Lead and the Gaza Freedom Flotilla attacks, and has been the primary commentator on the Palestine Papers.

Friday March 11

Sept enfants juifs: une pièce pour Gaza

Présentation d’une pièce de théâtre écrite par la dramaturge britannique Caryl Churchill dans les semaines qui ont suivi l'offensive sur Gaza en 2008. Maintenant traduite en français, elle est présentée par l’organisation montréalaise Voix juives indépendantes. La pièce est d’une durée de 20 minutes ensuite une discussion interactive aura lieu avec les acteurs.
